American Red Cross

Wheels program provides transportation services for disabled persons and senior citizens 60 years of age and older going to senior citizens centers, medical appointments and other essential services. Accept program offers consumer credit counseling and educational programs in the areas of budgeting, debt management, housing and energy for financially troubled families. Disaster Relief Program provides emergency mass care and assistance to individuals with disaster-caused needs, including food, temporary shelter, clothing, basic household furnishings and referral to community resources. Blood Services provides the services of a blood bank, collecting and storing blood from individuals who voluntarily donate. Community Health Services provides courses in adult CPR, infant and child CPR and a professional rescuer class.

Health Departments

Provide inspection services for restaurants, hotels, mobile home parks, food markets, swimming pools and sewage disposal systems to ensure compliance with health safety rules. Investigate food poisoning and pest control complaints. Some provide Car Safety Seat programs. Provide public health services including health screenings, immunizations, family planning, pregnancy testing and counseling, prenatal and well child care, screening for breast and cervical cancer and consultations for persons with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. Administer the WIC program which provides nutrition education and food vouchers for pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children under age 5 who cannot afford an adequate diet.

Also provides assistance with foster home placement. Primarily serves Henry, Oldham, Shelby and Trimble counties, but accepts referrals from all over Kentucky.
