Baptist Health La Grange in Running for Seeds of Change® Grant, Seeking Community Support via Online Voting

Baptist Health La Grange has entered the Seeds of Change® Grant Program for an opportunity to receive one of two $20,000 or one of 15 $10,000 grants. The grants will be awarded to organizations that help support and develop sustainable, community-based gardening and farming programs that focus on teaching people where their food comes from and the delicious ways it can end up on your plate. The Seeds of Change® Grant Program works to enhance the environmental, economic and social well-being of gardens, farms, farmers and communities. Baptist Health La Grange submitted an application explaining how they would use a grant to achieve its goals and is now asking the community for support through the public voting phase on Facebook.com/seedsofchange and at www.seedsofchangegrant.com.

Because healthy eating is key to good health, Baptist Health La Grange plans to transform their grassy atrium area into a community garden complete with raised beds and accessibility for those with disabilities. Vegetables grown will be delivered to patients through the hospital or community service providers.  They hope to directly impact their community by providing fresh vegetables to low-income individuals with chronic illnesses linked to nutrition.

From now through April 21, visitors will have an opportunity to vote once per day for the organization they feel most deserves a grant based on the organization’s demonstration of how the grant would help it to achieve its goals. You can help Baptist Health La Grange by voting daily for the Genesis Garden Project, La Grange, KY 40031. After voting closes, the top 50 organizations with the most votes will move on to a final judging phase, after which the grant recipients will be announced on or about May 5. Funding for the Seeds of Change® Grant Program comes from the “1% Fund,” the company’s commitment to donate one percent of net sales to support community-based nutrition, gardening and farming programs.

About Seeds of Change® Seeds of Change® was founded in 1989 by passionate gardeners with a vision to make organically grown seeds available to gardeners and farmers, while preserving countless heirloom seed varieties in danger of being lost to the “advances” of modern industrial agriculture. For over 20 years, we have remained true to our original vision by offering the largest selection of organic seeds in the industry, including heirloom, traditional, and rare seeds. Our seeds are produced through a network of certified organic family farms and professional growers. Through these partnerships, we continually cultivate study and develop seeds with the goal of producing the finest certified organic, open-pollinated varieties to share with our fellow gardeners and farmers. In 1997 our business expanded to also include Organic Food inspired by the notion that great taste and sustainability go hand in hand. We now offer a wide variety of Dry and Ready to Heat organic Rice and Grain varieties as well as organic cooking sauces.
