Lyle receives 2011 Volunteer scholarship

The Volunteer Association of Baptist Hospital Northeast recently awarded a $2,000 scholarshipBaptist Hospital Northeast Volunteer Association President Alta Haunsz presents the 2011 scholarship to William Lyle. to William Lyle, 17, son of Les and Gina Lyle, Campbellsburg.

Lyle is a 2011 graduate of Henry County High School. He plans to attend Western Kentucky University and major in chemistry, biology and Spanish. He then plans to go to pharmacy school at the University of Kentucky and go into some sort of management position, either in retail pharmacy, nuclear or manufacturing.

“I was ecstatic when I won (the scholarship),” Lyle said. “I applied for it, but I didn’t think I was going to win because there were a lot of other students I knew who were applying. Since I got this scholarship, I hope to save more of my own money to put toward pharmacy school, which is where I want to go.”

Seniors in Oldham, Henry and Trimble counties who planned to enroll in an accredited college or university and pursue a career in healthcare were eligible for the scholarship. Entries were judged on the basis of personal and professional goals, achievements, counselor comments and financial need. This is the 16th consecutive year that the Volunteer Association has awarded a scholarship to encourage young people to enter healthcare careers.
