Baptist Hospital Northeast will offer a Safe Sitter course from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the hospital, 1025 New Moody Lane, La Grange. Deadline for paid registration is Friday, July 23. Safe Sitter is a medically accurate program that teaches boys and girls ages 11 to 13 how to handle emergencies when caring for young children. The fee for the class is $45, which includes a messenger bag, manual and other useful items, as well as breakfast, lunch, snack and refreshments for the graduation ceremony. Scholarships are available based on financial need. Class size is limited, so early registration is recommended. Saturday, Sept. 25
Baptist Hospital Northeast will offer prostate cancer screenings for men over age 50 and those at high risk for prostate cancer from 8 a.m.-noon in the Ambulatory Care Center. Urologists Brooks Jackson, MD, and Christopher Smith, MD, will perform the digital rectal exams and Baptist Northeast Laboratory personnel will take blood samples to perform the prostate specific antigen (PSA) test. There is a $5 fee to help cover the cost of the blood test.
