Thursday, Jan. 26

A “Sibling” prenatal class will be from 7-8 p.m. This class helps children ages 3-11 feel special and part of the new baby's arrival. Parents remain with their children during a visit to the nursery and a video for "big brothers" and "big sisters." Bring a favorite doll or stuffed animal. Refreshments will be served. Free. Saturday, Feb. 4

Baptist Hospital Northeast will offer a Safe Sitter course from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the hospital, 1025 New Moody Lane, La Grange. Deadline for paid registration is Friday, Jan. 20. Safe Sitter is a medically accurate program that teaches boys and girls ages 11 to 13 how to handle emergencies when caring for young children. The fee for the class is $45, which includes a messenger bag, manual and other useful items, as well as breakfast, lunch, snack and refreshments for the graduation ceremony. Scholarships are available based on financial need. Class size is limited, so early registration is recommended. A “Healthy Journey for Two” class will be from 6-8 p.m. The class discusses the impact of tobacco, alcohol and medications (both over-the-counter and prescription) on the developing baby. Friday, Feb. 10

Baptist Hospital Northeast will sponsor a Community Health Fair from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 in the hospital's main lobby area. A variety of free screenings and health information will be offered, including medication counseling (bring medications), pulmonary function testing, and blood pressure, blood glucose and pulse oximetry.
