Baptist Hospital Northeast will offer a Safe Sitter course from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 at the hospital, 1025 New Moody Lane, La Grange. Deadline for paid registration is Friday, Jan. 23. Safe Sitter is a medically accurate program that teaches boys and girls ages 11 to 13 how to handle emergencies when caring for young children. The fee for the class is $45, which includes a messenger bag, manual and other useful items, as well as breakfast, lunch, snack and refreshments for the graduation ceremony. Scholarships are available based on financial need. Class size is limited, so early registration is recommended. Wednesday, Feb. 10

Baptist Hospital Northeast will sponsor a Community Health Fair from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. in the main lobby area. A variety of free screenings and health information will be offered, including medication counseling (bring medications), pulmonary function testing, and blood pressure, blood glucose and pulse oximetry. From 7-10 a.m., visitors may have blood drawn for a basic metabolic screening and a fat and cholesterol profile for $10. Those participating in this screening must fast beginning at midnight the night before. Giveaways and door prizes will also be available. For more information, call (502) 222-3877.

A “Healthy Journey for Two” prenatal class will be from 6-8 p.m. This class discusses the impact of tobacco, alcohol and medications (both prescription and over-the-counter) on the developing baby. An “All About Labor” class will be held from 7-9 p.m. in the Conference Center. Learn about the signs, symptoms and stages of labor, pain management, the process of delivery and the recovery period.
