Baptist Hospital Foundation: Saying thanks by giving back
Through donations to the Baptist Hospital Foundation, Baptist Health La Grange can provide many programs and services that enhance the quality of care given. Gifts from members of the community allow nurses and other staff members to receive additional education and training. Donations allow us to provide needed assistance for our indigent patients while helping us make every patient’s hospital stay a little more comfortable. Your support also allows the hospital to meet the healthcare needs we know about today, and be prepared to meet the healthcare needs of tomorrow.
Volunteers work in most areas of Baptist Health La Grange including information desks, transport, Pastoral Care, Customer Relations, the Medical/Surgical Unit, the Transitional Care Unit and various waiting areas. Volunteers staff the patient information desks and help patients and families find their way. They deliver flowers and newspapers, escort patients and families, help fill water pitchers, assist with meal tray selections and prepare patient information packets. By performing these small but very important services, our volunteers add a personal touch to the hospital and help make it a warm, friendly place. Volunteers make a real difference by providing all the little extras our patients have come to appreciate. In addition, about 20 VolunTeens work at the hospital during the summer.
Other volunteer services
In addition to working directly with patients, volunteers provide many other important services, including:
- Gift Shop sales, hostess cart
- Emergency Department and Surgery Teddy Bear Program for pediatric patients
- Scholarship awarded to a graduating senior from Oldham, Henry or Trimble county
- Purchase of hospital equipment and educational materials
Funds for the purchase of hospital equipment and educational materials, Bibles and scholarships are raised through gift shop operations, craft fairs, uniform sales and other events. Through these fundraising efforts, the auxiliary has been involved with many new additions to Baptist Health La Grange. Some of its most recent contributions include a main lobby renovation, complete with a handpainted mural of a Biblical scene; renovation of the hospital chapel and training equipment for the Education Department.
Last year, more than 65 volunteers gave 16,878 hours of service. Each hour is valued at $10.35, for a total value of $174,687.
